Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer brought the glamour of the Sun King’s Court to England. Having worked for Louis XIV, in 1690 he was enticed by the Duke of Montagu to come to England, where he painted for Queen Mary and many members of the English aristocracy. Monnoyer was celebrated for his lavish, baroque still lifes of flowers and fruit.
