Sir Michael Craig-Martin at the RA
A key figure in British Art, Sir Michael Craig-Martin RA, is being celebrated with a colourful retrospective exhibition in the main galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts this autumn.
Since coming to prominence in the late 1960s he has created works in various media including sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, prints and digital works, fusing elements from pop, minimalism and conceptual art.
The largest and most comprehensive exhibition of Craig-Martin's 60-year career ever held in the UK, the show will feature a group of monumental sculptures in the courtyard, as well as a dramatic new immersive digital work. You can see early experimental sculpture and his landmark conceptual work, An Oak Tree, alongside the large-scale, vivid colour paintings of everyday objects – from corkscrews and umbrellas to laptops and smartphones.
As "godfather of the YBAs" (Esquire) — the Young British Artists including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, and more — Michael Craig-Martin is also one of the most influential artists and teachers of his generation.
